Chris Motz is senior counsel in the military affairs practice group at First Liberty Institute where he advocates for the religious freedom of servicemembers and veterans. He has also served in several military roles, as executive director of a state Catholic conference, and as chief of staff and general counsel for a Catholic diocese. Mr. Motz earned a BA in political science from Iowa State University and a JD from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota). He and his wife Hannah are members of the Emmanuel Community, a Catholic lay movement dedicated to adoration and mission, and have six children.
